Liana Brown, PhD (Penn State; she/her)
I have always been interested in vision and movement. I studied kinesiology as an undergrad and grad student at Waterloo. I was captured by neuroscience while working on my honours thesis and master’s degree with Dr. Eric Roy. I was fortunate to work as a psychometrist at Toronto Western Hospital conducting neuropsychological assessments for the neurology and neurosurgery services there. I earned a PhD in cognitive psychology at Penn State, learning about vision and attention with Dr. Cathleen Moore (MS supervisor), movement planning and control with Dr. David Rosenbaum (PhD co-supervisor), and movement neuroscience with Dr. Robert Sainburg (PhD co-supervisor). I completed a post-doctoral fellowship with Dr. Paul Gribble and Dr. Mel Goodale in cognitive neuroscience at Western. I have been a professor in the psychology department at Trent University since 2007 and now I split my time between the psychology and kinesiology departments.
I have special interests in the contributions of vision and proprioception to motor learning and performance. You can click here to learn about our recent and current research projects.
I teach these courses regularly: Brain & Body in Action (PSYC 2210), Cognitive Psychology (PSYC 2400), Sensation and Perception (PSYC 3460), Neuropsychology (PSYC 3220), and Movement Disorders (KINE 4002).
I supervise undergraduate research opportunities by offering spots in our Research Practicum and Reading courses (PSYC or KINE 3801, 4801) and in the Psych and Kin Honours Thesis programs. I also supervise graduate students in the Psychology MSc program. Please feel welcome to contact me if our research interests you!
I am the director of the On The Move! Exercise program for people with Parkinson’s Disease.

Emma Pownall
BSc (Honours Kinesiology, Trent), MSc Candidate
I am a recent graduate of the kinesiology program at Trent University. My undergrad thesis investigated the long term effects of concussions on eye movement performance and executive functioning. I am continuing this research as a master's in the psychology department and hope to change the concussion landscape of Peterborough, while making a positive impact in the research community.

BSc (Honours Psychology, Trent), MSc Candidate
I am a proud graduate of Trent's Honours BSc Psychology program! I have been involved in various research projects, including exploring the personality factors that mediate different atypical perceptual phenomena for my honours thesis, investigating the effects of a community-based exercise program on the symptoms of depression in Parkinson's Disease and studying how participant non-naïveté affects the reliability of results. I am currently looking at the visual pathways involved in Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease. When I am not conducting research, I can be found on the tennis courts or hanging out with my dog Pip.

BSc (Honours Psychology, Trent), MSc Candidate
I am a graduate of Trent University’s BSc (Honours) Psychology program. My undergraduate thesis explored the impact of concussions on executive function by evaluating eye movements. Currently, I am completing my MSc in Psychology, researching the relationship between freezing and executive function in people living with Parkinson’s disease. I hope to contribute to the growing body of Parkinson’s research and strive to make a positive impact on the Parkinson’s community.
